I love it! Oh, and I can’t wait for the Patrick Mahomes Drop
If you are on the internet, I’m sure you’ve started hearing about NFTs. Stories about digital art and digital collectibles being sold for thousands of dollars. It’s really being sold in exchange for crypto-currency, but that’s another post. This also isn’t a post on whether NFTs are art or just the holding vehicle. If you want to know a little more, check out this article here. It doesn’t get too technical and is a good overview.
NFTs can be bought, sold, or traded. Think of a digital Babe Ruth baseball card. You could own that on the blockchain. Then, you could display it, sell it, or tuck it away. Like the baseball card in real life, there could be thousands of copies, or unique items (1:1). Also, like the baseball card, the value could increase or decrease.
Besides items like baseball cards, this week we saw the digital artist Beeple one of his pieces through Christie’s for $69 million! Twitter’s Jack Dorsey also announced he was selling his first tweet as an NFT. Here is a pic of the artwork sold for that massive amount.
I recently started collecting and purchased my piece. It is a collectable card. I plan on picking up more. I am looking for collectable cards, animations, and other types of art. I would like to build a collection and possible find a way to display, either online or an irl gallery.
The NBA has been releasing a lot of collectible moments to sell as NFTs. Short clips of dunks and other plays have been selling. Take a look at this Tyler Herro Layup NFT. Or you can find plenty of other pieces to find something for your style. Whatever type of art you like, you’ll probably find it as an NFT.
Some other exciting news is that Patrick Mahomes is going to be releasing an NFT for charity. He will be offering six different art pieces for sale ranging from $2,500 to $15,000, and a mystery auction item with no set price. He will be working with London design-firm Impossible Brief. His drop will be on NFT market Makersplace.
I plan on writing a little more about the NFT space. I’m very interested in seeing where it will go. I would also like to find way to spread info about the NFT space to artist in Kansas City.
